How Long is the Hike to Kotor Fortress?
Starting in the Old Town of Kotor, it takes about an hour to climb the impressive 1,350 steps that lead to the stunning Kotor Fortress, passing by the lovely Church of Our Lady of Remedy. The entrance fee is 15 Euros – cash and credit card payments are accepted.

Did You Know That the Kotor Fortress Has Two Completely Different Trails to the Top?
The most popular trail is slightly easier and definitely more tourist-friendly, beginning from the Old Town, where an admission fee of 15 EURO is required. The alternate trail is known as the Ladder of Kotor; it offers a more challenging hike and is free of charge. Our favorite trail is definitely the Ladder of Kotor. It isn’t steep, but it does get rocky, so wear good shoes. Also, bring water and start your hike early, as it gets very hot during the summer months.
Ladder of Kotor (Serpentine Road)
The trail for the Ladder of Kotor begins just outside the Old Town of Kotor and is a zigzag uphill path. One of the best aspects of this hike, in addition to the breathtaking views, is stopping at the Cheese Shop! We encountered some goats along the way, so you know the cheese is super fresh!
Hiking the Entire Ladder of Kotor
If you have the energy and time, why not continue your hike to the very top? The trail continues and concludes near the Nevjesta Jadrana Restaurant at an altitude of 950 meters. It is 6 km to the summit and 12 km if you return down to Kotor. The views are definitely worth it!
